Making meetings easier for different communication styles
Short guidance you can pass on to a team or manager.
For teams and managers
- Send agendas in advance.
- Make it clear when input is wanted, and on what.
- Allow written contributions as well as spoken ones.
- Permit follow-up after a meeting.
- Avoid rewarding only the fastest speaker.
- Use chat and hand-raise functions where they are available.
- Pause before moving to the next agenda item.
- Confirm decisions in writing.
- Avoid unnecessary phone calls where an email would do.
- Do not read a delayed verbal response as a lack of knowledge.
Contribution should not be measured only by who speaks fastest in the room.
